The 2012–13 New York Islanders season was the 25th season for the franchise in the National Hockey League (NHL). The Islanders missed the playoffs for the fourth consecutive year.
Off-season
2012 Draft
The Islanders' 2012 NHL Entry Draft was held on June 22 and 23, 2012, at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul, Minnesota. The Islanders participated in the draft lottery, and with a second-place finish, the New York Islanders won the sixth pick in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft, which was held on June 22, 2012. The Islanders' pick was used to select defenceman Aaron Ness, their fourth pick, with the choice coming from the Columbus Blue Jackets.
Regular season
The Islanders began their season on October 7, 2012, against the Philadelphia Flyers, where they lost in a shootout. The Islanders were unable to qualify for the post-season for the fifth consecutive year.
